Don’t expect to see your mailman or bank teller on the job today.
Veterans Day was Sunday, and because the holiday fell on the weekend, many entities will observe the holiday today, including the federal government, which will be giving many of its employees the day off, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Today is also a holiday for the state of Georgia, one of the 12 holidays state employees will observe this year.
In addition, the doors of your financial institution aren’t likely to be open today, as today will be treated by most of those companies as a bank holiday.

While classes will be held as normal today in Paulding County Schools, most Paulding government offices will be closed. Paulding County commissioners during their Oct. 10 meeting approved four days for fiscal year 2013 when county offices will be closed and employees furloughed. Today is the first of the fiscal year’s four furlough days; the next is Dec. 31.
While the furloughs will close most county government offices on those days and keep those employees at home, essential services such as public safety will remain operational.
The county government will observe its other two furlough days on Feb. 18 and May 24, 2013.
