Paulding's Early Voting Stats Surpass 2008 Pace

Updated: Early voting and mailed-in absentee ballots have put Paulding County's voter turnout through Monday at 49 percent.

Updated late Monday

Updated numbers released Monday by Paulding County Elections Office Supervisor Deidre Holden show that the county now has 86,482 registered voters. Of those, 77,879 are considered active voters.

The official turnout, Holden said, is based on the percentage of active voters who have voted. The county’s 35,602 early, in-person votes alone puts turnout at 45.7 percent.

By comparison, in the 2008 general election, 31,648 in-person ballots were cast early from the county’s 72,281 active voters, or 43.8 percent of voters.

Original story

Many of Paulding County’s registered voters will be able to avoid the election-day lines on Tuesday.

Deidre Holden, supervisor of the Paulding County Elections office, told Dallas-Hiram Patch Friday evening that when early voting ended at 5 p.m. that day, 35,602 county residents had already cast in-person ballots, taking advantage of the 16 days the county offered voting opportunities ahead of Tuesday’s election day.

Last month, Paulding had 85,929 voters on the rolls. Based on Friday’s total, an estimated 41.4 percent of the county’s registered voters cast early ballots in person.

Early voting in the county began Oct. 15 at the county’s elections office in the Watson Government Complex in Dallas. Polling continued there each weekday through Friday. The elections office also was the site of last month’s Saturday voting opportunity.

Paulding voters last week had more polling places to choose from as advance voting was held at three satellite locations.

No polling places are open today (Monday). County voters’ only remaining opportunity to cast ballots in the general election is Tuesday. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
