Georgia Residents on Closed Airport Meetings: This Won't Fly

The residents accuse the Paulding County Airport Authorty of violating Georgia's 2012 open meetings act, which places restrictions on holding sessions that are closed off to the public.

A group of Paulding County residents are accusing public officials of holding closed-session meetings to discuss creating another commercial airport in metro Atlanta, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The residents accuse the Paulding County Airport Authority of violating Georgia’s 2012 open meetings act, which places restrictions on holding sessions that are closed to the public. 

In a lawsuit filed this week in Paulding County Superior Court, the group claims that the airport authority failed to give advanced public notice regarding a two-day retreat in which the commercialization of the airport was discussed.

Speaking to AJC.com, Airport Director Blake Swafford noted that the authority board has made changes in the way it operates and will consider additional changes if they’re needed.
