Good Weather for Helping Tornado Victims and Celebrating Mom

GEMA is asking for volunteers to turn out today and help clean up storm damage from the recent outbreak of severe weather.

1.  Today continues our series of sunny days with a high in the lower 80s and Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph.  Tonight will remain mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s. Southwest winds up to 10 mph. For a peek at next week's weather go to the National Weather Service forecast page for Paulding County.

2.  Watch the Patch roundup of events in neighboring Powder Springs and Acworth and other local events on Friday's Patch Cast.

3.  GEMA has put out a call for cleanup volunteers today to move debris, rake yards, chain-saw trees and other efforts. Dress ready to work, bring gloves, hats, goggles, and tools such as chain saws and hammers, in addition to sunscreen, food and water. 5.  On this day in 1789, President George Washington attends a ball in his honor. The event provided a model for the first official inaugural ball, held to celebrate James Madison's ascension to the office ten years later, which then became an annual tradition.

Also on this day in 1945, the German High Command, in the person of General Alfred Jodl, signs the unconditional surrender of all German forces. At first, General Jodl hoped to limit the terms of German surrender to only those forces still fighting the Western Allies. But General Dwight Eisenhower demanded complete surrender of all German forces, those fighting in the East as well as in the West.
