Hiram City Council Meeting Tonight

The council is set to vote on gateway signage and other street SPLOST projects.

The will hold its work and regular sessions for June today. The work session is at 5:30 p.m. and the council’s regular meeting follows at 6:30 in City Hall, and the agenda is subject to change prior to meeting time.

The council plans to devote its work session to three presentations.

1. Croft & Associates Design Proposal & Construction Services Proposal for the old Regions Bank Building located at 855 Hiram Douglasville Highway. The council is expected to vote this item during its regular meeting.

2. Construction of a “Welcome to Hiram/Paulding” Gateway sign on Wendy Bagwell Parkway at the Cobb/Paulding line for an amount not to exceed $60,000 to be paid from Street SPLOST, in accordance with the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum of 2010. Mayor Carmen Rollins . The council is expected to vote this item during its regular meeting.

3. The work session wraps up with a Municode proposal. Municode is a company that codifies ordinances.

The council’s new business agenda for its regular meeting includes:

Paulding County Economic Development Director Jamie Gilbert will present an update regarding the Economic Development initiative in Paulding County.

And the council will hear a 15-minute presentation from Fox Environmental regarding EPD Compliance with Phase II Stormwater Reporting requirements. This item would then require a vote to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with Fox Environmental to perform Phase II Stormwater Reporting activities for the 2011 calendar year for $28,875 (Street SPLOST).

The council would also require a vote(s) to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with Croft & Associates for the renovation, design and bid specifications for the old Regions Bank building located at 855 Hiram Douglasville Highway, in the amount of $16,800, and for bid tabulation and construction management services during the renovation for $6,300.

The council would also consider a vote regarding the city’s State Probation Crew Agreement for FY2012 to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Georgia Department of Corrections for the purpose of providing a work crew to the city for fiscal year 2012, in the amount of $39,500. Other items the council is expected to vote on are: 

  • Authorize construction of “Welcome to Hiram/Paulding” Gateway sign on Wendy Bagwell Parkway at the Cobb/Paulding line for an amount not to exceed $60,000, to be paid from Street SPLOST, in accordance with the SPLOST referendum of 2010.
  • Approve the purchase of a GMC dump truck for use by the Public Works Department from Womack Truck Body Inc., in the amount of $15,000. (Street SPLOST)
  • Greystone Franchise Agreement for utility services in the city.

Additionally the council will receive a Hiram Herald information update prior to going into closed session. The Hiram Herald is published by the city and intended as a quarterly newsletter and distributed to Hiram residents.
