Hiram City Council: Summary Minutes from July 22 Work Session

The Work Session for July 22, 2014 of the City of Hiram was called to order by Mayor Doris A. Devey at 6:00 pm in the Hiram City Hall Training Room.

Meeting attendees: Mayor Doris Devey, Mayor Pro Tem Pep Rollins, Councilperson Derrick Battle, Councilperson Kathy Carter, Councilperson Kathy Bookout, Councilperson Teresa Philyaw, Robbie Rokovitz, Kelly Hundley, Chief VandeZande, Jody Palmer, Jason James, Cynthia Geyer, Helene Fitzgerald, Carmen Rollins, Kim Denmark, Kim Fonseca, Brian Dean, Harley Thackston, Mitchell Dean, Mark Thackston, Bonita Clark, Bob Bookout.

  • Jason James did the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Mayor Devey recognized Kim Denmark and asked her to speak about her “Walk across America”
  • Jason James reviewed the two nominees for Stand-By Judges to be considered by Council.
  • Jody Palmer & Mr. Hundley reviewed the DRAFT Floodplain Management/Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. Jody will submit to Paulding County Community Development for review to make sure we are in compliance with the County’s ordinance.
  • Jody Palmer & Mr. Hundley reviewed the DRAFT Car Wash Ordinance.
  • Mr. Hundley & Council discussed the effectiveness of the current Sign Ordinance and feedback with regard to past, present and future businesses in Hiram.
  • Mr. Rokovitz presented the Paulding County EDO Agreement for 2014-2015 to Mayor and Council. Councilperson Bookout requested the Agreement be placed on August 5, 2014 Regular Session Agenda.
  • Mr. Rokovitz and Chief VandeZande reviewed the FTO and Extra Duty/Overtime pay amendments to the Employee Handbook.
  • Mr. Rokovitz reviewed the FY2015 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant Resolution that will be on the August 5 Agenda for consideration by Mayor and Council.
  • Mr. Rokovitz discussed using consent agendas in future meetings.
  • Mr. Rokovitz provided a copy of the letter going to City Residents that have not complied with the Sanitation Ordinance.
  • Mayor Pro Tem Rollins will be on-call while Mayor Devey is on vacation.
  • Work Session was adjourned.
