Hiram Set Business Permit Fee Structure
No members of the public spoke during a public hearing on the measure prior to its adoption Tuesday night.
No public input was received Tuesday night during a public hearing on a proposed amendment to Hiram’s occupation taxes and regulatory fees.
Prior to the start of the Hiram City Council’s regular November meeting Tuesday, a public hearing was held regarding the amendment. The purpose of the hearing was to invite public input on amending the ordinance prior to the council’s vote on the amendment as part of Tuesday's agenda.
“The amendment is to put in place the fee structure for our occupational business permits; the hearing lets everyone know the fees and the rates based on number of employees and other criteria,” City Manager Robbie Rokovitz explained following the meeting.

Rokovitz said the amendment specifically pertained to an update in the addition of an administrative fee.
After the council received no public input, Mayor Doris Devey adjourned the hearing. Councilmen then voted to adopt the ordinance.

Councilmen also adopted a resolution to support the application for funds through the Livable Centers Initiative Program (LCIP).
According to Rokovitz, who addressed councilmen prior to the vote, the resolution allows the city to move ahead with submittal of an application to the Atlanta Regional Commission for funds available through the LCIP.
And councilmen voted 4-1 in favor, with Teresa Philyaw voting against, of a measure to allow Devey to enter into a contract with the Georgia Municipal Association for services relative to hotel-motel tax operation and compliance, but tabled another GMA item relative to alcoholic beverage tax operation and compliance. GMA will conduct an audit of the four hotels in city limits, Rokovitz explained. The tabled GMA item will be reconsidered for a vote next month.
In other business, the council:
- Voted to cash a United Community Bank certificate of deposit valued at $201,615.12 plus interest earned, which allowed those funds to be deposited, as was already approved, in the city’s fiscal year 2013 budget.
- Awarded the city’s Community Center HVAC upgrade project to Ragsdale Heating & Air for an amount not to exceed $16,670.
The Hiram City Council’s next scheduled meeting is a Nov. 20 work session.
