Hiram Council To Consider Taller Hospital

A public hearing on a proposed variance to allow for a larger hospital to be constructed in Hiram will precede tonight's council meeting.

Seven may be a lucky number, but the number WellStar officials hope to see come up is 11. Officials with the health group have applied for a variance to increase the number of stories in the main tower of the future —to be built in Hiram at the corner of Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway and Bill Carruth Parkway—from seven to 11.

during its meeting today at 6:30 p.m. will hold a public hearing on the hospital group’s latest variance application; a variance approved back in 2006 increased the future hospital’s size to seven stories from three.

The public hearing will kick off the meeting, while the proposed variance is set to be the first vote to come before the council.

Councilmen tonight also will consider rescinding a measure approved last month from its current bi-annual basis to monthly. Following a vote on the rescission are proposed votes that would lead to changing the time and date of salary payments to the elected officials.

No increase to elected officials’ pay has been put forth in the proposed votes.
