Hiram-Based Organization Condemns PSC Vote on Solar Energy

AFP-GA Condemns PSC vote on solar energy mandate, Commissioners "chose to ignore concerns" of constituents, says state director Galloway.

Americans For Prosperity-GA, the nation's premiere organization for limited government and economic freedom, expresses its disapproval with the 3-2 decision of the Georgia Public Service Commission which calls for a solar energy mandate on private sector energy providers in Georgia. A mandate of any kind, by government, is not free market and AFP supports no mandates or taxpayer-funded government subsidies for any form of energy production. We applaud the strong dissent of Commissioners Stan Wise and Chuck Eaton (more information at the following link): http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/political-insider/2013/jul/11/counterpoint-stan-wise-blistering-criticism-psc-so/

AFP State Director, Virginia Galloway said:

"It is unfortunate that the duly elected Public Service Commissioners chose to ignore the concerns of their own constituents and the over 3,600 opposition emails that AFP Georgia activists sent to them. This shows a willingness to put the wishes of special interests ahead of hard-working Georgia taxpayers."

Historical data shows (including the most recent data as of April 2013) that states with mandates for renewable energy can expect to see rate increases of anywhere from 26-40 percent over time and more taxpayer subsidies for solar energy companies. Fortunately, Commissioner Wise was able to get an amendment passed that may help contain solar power usage cost to some degree. Commissioner Wise stated that this solar mandate was both imprudent and irresponsible, given that GA Power already can produce with current facilities 25 to 30 percent  more power than the market demands.
