Light Work Session for Board of Commissioners Today

Two items of new business, one bid award and one consent agenda item moved to session tonight for action.

During its morning work session, the Paulding Board of Commissioners discussed a recommendation to award a construction contract to K.M. Davis Contracting Company Inc. at a cost of $958,623.10. The work to be done under the contract will be part of the East Hiram Parkway Relocation project.

Water System Director Michael Carter reported that the county had received eight bids for the project, with K.M. Davis submitting the low bid.

Carter said the project will last about four months and will involve relocating water mains and laying pipes along the parkway.

According to Carter, this will give the county an opportunity to clean up some issues and to make other improvements as part of road construction along the new parkway.

Carter reported that this work would also make it unlikely that the county will have to go into any of the intersections to do work on water mains at a later date.

Final action will be taken on the bid in tonight's board session.

The two items of new business are for contractual agreements with the cities of Dallas and Hiram for the county to conduct their 2011 general municipal elections.

Deidre Holden, supervisor of elections, informed the board that this is a standard protocol that had been used in the past.

The two cities will reimburse the county for expenses related to the municipal elections.

A consent agenda item was also moved to the session tonight for final action. The agenda item is Resolution 11-20, which is to adopt an amendment to Section 26-40 of the Official Code of Paulding County for 911 charges on prepaid wireless service.

During the work session, two firefighters were recognized by the board with the Public Safety Appreciation Award.

Firefighter/EMT Adam Shaffer and Firefighter John Gillbrook were honored for their outstanding performance with the county fire department.

Paulding County Fire Department Deputy Chief Joey Pelfrey reported that the two firefighters responded to a medical emergency call and were instrumental in performing CPR and stabilizing a patient who had suffered a heart attack.

The patient was later transported to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
