Hiram's Sunday Sales To Begin This Weekend

An amendment to the city's alcohol ordinance to allow the sales will take effect just over a month since voters gave their approval for it.

Hiram businesses that sell alcohol by the package will be able to make such sales this Sunday.

at its monthly meeting Tuesday gave unanimous approval to an amendment to the city’s alcohol ordinance to allow for Sunday package sales, and without a need for businesses to come before the city to amend their licenses. The move comes to allow for such sales.

Councilmen also gave unanimous approval to several alcohol license approvals and one new alcohol license. All businesses listed on the agenda as applying for a license (the agenda is attached to this article) received approval.

  • Voted to purchase three Dodge Charger police vehicles in implementing a take-home vehicle policy. Each vehicle will cost $37,613.85, for a total of $112,841.55 for the three, which will be paid for from Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds. The council also voted to amend the city’s budget to cover an estimated $34,000 for the purchase, which will be made up by incoming SPLOST collections.
  • Approved a one-year sanitation service contract extension with Waste Industries, beginning Jan. 1.

Barring any called meetings before the end of the year, Wednesday’s meeting is set to be the last for two councilmen—Alvin Sims and Helena Williams. Williams’ term in the Post 2 seat ends this month; Kathy Bookout, , will take over in January.
