Paulding Releases Proposed School Redistricting Maps

Half of the district's eight existing middle schools would be affected if the proposed maps were ratified. Several public meetings will be held before the maps are approved. Let us know what you think of the proposals.

Officials with Paulding County Schools on Tuesday released the first series of proposed middle school attendance maps for the 2012-2013 school year. The maps are attached to this article.

The attendance zones of four middle schools—, , Scoggins and —remain so far unaffected by the redistricting process, which the district is undertaking as it . The middle schools slated to be affected are , , and .

Parents and community members’ first official chance to weigh in on the maps will be Monday at 7 p.m., when three high schools—, and —host the second series of public hearings regarding the redistricting process. Officials at the hearings are slated to review the district’s progress to date, introduce the currently proposed redistricting plan and offer attendees a chance to take part in small-group facilitated discussion on the plan, with input used to revise the proposal into a draft plan or plans. The plan(s) will then be the center of discussion at a Jan. 12 forum at East Paulding High School.

Prior to those meetings is Thursday’s school community meeting at . The purpose of that meeting is “to present information and provide opportunity for feedback,” according to the district website, as district officials move forward following . The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s gym.
