Philyaw First to Qualify for Hiram Council Seat

Teresa Philyaw, the incumbent for Post 3 of the Hiram City Council, has already submitted her paperwork to qualify for the Nov. 5 municipal general election.

Today is the first day for candidates to qualify for the Nov. 5 municipal general election. City of Hiram City Council Member for Post 3, Teresa Philyaw, has already submitted her paperwork, according to City Clerk Cynthia Geyer.

In addition to the City Council seat for Post 3, Posts 4 and 5 are also up for election. Post 4 is currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Derrick Battle and Post 5 is occupied by Earlene Graham. No other candidates have yet filed their Declaration of Intent, according to Geyer.

The qualification fees are set at $90 for the office of council member.

Candidates may qualify for any of the available post positions at Hiram City Hall, 217 Main Street, beginning today and ending Friday, Aug. 30, at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications to run for council member are: must be a City of Hiram resident for 12 months; be 21 years of age and a qualified voter of the city.
