Who/what are we voting for?

There are two elections happening in Paulding County today, though one of them only applies to voters in the city of Hiram.

Countywide, all voters can cast a ballot in the presidential preference primary. Although a number of Republican contenders are listed on the ballot, only four remain in the running: Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Democratic voters will have the opportunity to show their support for President Barack Obama, the only candidate in the party's primary.

Hiram voters also have the chance to select their city’s next mayor. are Don Brown and Doris Devey.

 

Where do I vote?

A list of county voting precincts can be found attached to this article. Those who are unsure of their voting precinct can visit the state’s My Voter Page and search for their name to find their voting information.

Those wishing to cast ballots in the Hiram mayor’s race will have to make an additional trip to the Hiram Community Center on Main Street.

 

When can I vote?

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Why are these elections being held?

The presidential preference primary will help determine which Republican candidate will earn Georgia’s 76 delegates. Though the GOP’s candidate may not be set in stone after today’s elections, if one candidate wins several states, they could be propelled to the head of the pack.

Hiram voters are selecting a new mayor following the , who was elected in November.
