Board Approves Class Size Resolution

The Paulding County School System will submit a class size waiver to increase several class limits as the district continues to face declines in revenue.

Class size limits in many areas are set to remain the same in the 2012-2013 school year as Paulding County School Board members Tuesday gave the nod to filing a class size waiver.

The waiver asks state education officials to allow increased class sizes in several educational areas as the district continues to face declines in local revenue. The requested increases are the same as those the district is operating under this year.

Under the proposed increases, limits would be increased by as many as five students in regular education classes in grades kindergarten through 12; the English Language Learners program; Early Intervention Program; remedial education; vocational classes; special education classes; and the K-5 gifted program. Middle school gifted classes would have their student limits upped by as many as nine pupils, while high school gifted classes could go up by as many as 11.
