State Could See Tornadoes Tonight

The forecast for Paulding says rain and thunderstorms are likely tonight, with severe storms possible.

Meteorologists are warning those in north and central Georgia, including Paulding, to be on the lookout for possible severe weather tonight.

A hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service says the primary hazard in the affected counties will be strong winds, though isolated tornadoes are possible; meteorologists are not ruling out the potential for a strong tornado in several warned counties.

Experts say the best chance for tornadoes will be this evening until midnight.

According to the weather forecast for Paulding, there is a slight chance of rain before 7 p.m., with showers and thunderstorms likely from then until 1 a.m.; some of the storms could be severe during that time period. Rain is expected to continue into the early hours Thursday, while a thunderstorm remaining possible.

Overall, tonight’s chance of rain is 70 percent, and tonight’s low is expected to slide down to just under 60 degrees. Winds of 5 to 10 mph could gust as high as 15 mph.

In a release Wednesday afternoon, Det. Stephen Dooley, hazardous weather specialist with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, warned residents to remain alert to weather conditions that could rapidly change and exercise caution if outdoor activities are planned. Dooley and the department also recommend that loose outdoor items be secured to prevent damage.

Showers will remain possible Thursday; otherwise, meteorologists say we can expect partly sunny skies with a high near 73.
