Though dirt was already being moved at the site of the future WellStar Paulding Hospital, officials with the health group and others who have helped the project along were on hand Monday to lift shovels to commemorate the beginning of construction.

The facility being built in Hiram along Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway at Bill Carruth Parkway, next to the , is slated to open in April of 2014. Fifty-six in-patient beds will be available once the hospital opens, though future work will double that amount to 112.

Attendees at Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony heard WellStar Medical Group officials outline the future hospital’s features and what it will bring to Paulding residents.

We want to know what you think about the new hospital. Is it too big? Not big enough? Does the community need it? Weigh in by adding your comment(s).

Jon - Thanks for the great coverage! In response to your post, I think this is a good size to start off with, especially how Paulding County is growing. I am anxious to see this his hospital built and glad to hear they are moving away from the old modern cooling towers and going towards geothermal energy to heat and cool the hospital. Great, new modern design, too! :o)
