Video: Three Vying for House District 19 Seat

Only one state representative from Paulding is facing a challenge from within their own party.

To retain her District 19 seat, State Rep. Paulette Rakestraw Braddock, R-Powder Springs, will have to fend off challengers from Michael Ray James of Acworth and Melissa Morrison of Dallas in the July 31 Republican primary.

The candidate who emerges from that election—or a potential runoff on Aug. 21 if no candidate has more than half of the votes after next week’s results are released—will take office in January as no Democratic nor independent candidates are vying for the seat.

In other state legislative races impacting Paulding:

State Sen. Bill Heath of Bremen faces two challengers from Dallas—Bill Carruth and J.K. Rogers—as the three seek the District 31 seat. The winner will face no opposition in November.

The newly created House District 66 has three men vying for the Republican nomination: Michael “Mike” Miller, Bob Snelling and Mickey Thompson, all of Douglasville. The winner moves onto the November election to face Dallas’ Kimberly Alexander, who qualified as a Democrat.

In House District 67, incumbent Bill Hembree of Winston is unopposed in the primary, but will meet Democrat Leigh Mcmutry, also from Winston, in November.
