Relay For Life of Paulding County is just one of the community projects the “Flamingo Friends” group has been helping with the last few years, but it’s an effort they have strongly supported for more than half a decade.
“We started as a small group of ladies who met once a month for a night out,” says Team Captain Norma Watson. “Our goal was to have fun and to help in our communities in some way. We have helped families at Christmas, bought jackets, shoes, and provided filled book bags as we found a need in our local schools.”
Watson, along with Co-captain Amy Bressner Howard and other team members, have held Bunco games and sold T-shirts to raise money for this year’s Relay campaign, and so far, their efforts have brought in nearly $4,000 that will help fight cancer. That total will grow up through Relay, as the team at the event will be holding a silent auction. This will be the third year the team has held such a fundraiser during Relay.
Previously known as the “Flip Flop Flamingos,” this will be the sixth Relay For Life for the Flamingo Friends.
“Our group continues to grow and we now encourage all the family members to join us,” Watson adds. “We are family and friends supporting our family and friends who have been touched by cancer.
“We hope to see a cure soon!”
