8th Graders Writing Contest: 'If I had a Superpower...'

The contest is open to all 8th grade students in Paulding County middle schools.

The Paulding County Writers' Guild (PCWG) is asking all eighth grader students to answer the question, "If you had a superpower what would you do and why?"

This for the PCWG's eighth annual writing contest this December. The contest is open to all 8th grade students in the following Paulding County middle schools: Austin, Dobbins, East Paulding, Hershel Jones, McClure, Moses, PB Ritch, Scroggins and South Paulding. All entries must be submitted to the students’ English teachers and must be received no later than Dec. 18, 2013 to be eligible for participation.

Entries must include the following information: Student’s name, school, and teacher information; entries without this information will be disqualified. The PCWG members will judge the contest, and winners will be announced during the second week of January 2014.

Those who enter will receive a coupon for free bowling from Stars & Strikes at their Dallas location. Additional prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners at each school, and a Grand Prize will be awarded to the best written entry overall. Teachers of 1st place and Grand Prize winning students will also receive prize packages.

All winning entries will be published in The North Georgia Writer, January
2014 issue, which will be available following the announcement of the winners. The Writing Contest’s Grand Prize package features prizes from Sparkles (courtesy of Jessica Crawford), Stars & Strikes (courtesy of Randy K. Riggs), The Dallas Theater (courtesy of Emily Shipp), Chick-fil-a (courtesy of Kristie Summers) and Yogli-Mogli (courtesy of Netta Thomas).

The grand prize package is worth more than $100!

About the Paulding County Writers’ Guild The Paulding County Writers' Guild (PCWG) is a non-organized group of writers who love to foster the art of writing in others. They meet twice monthly on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 7 until 9 p.m., to discuss the business and craft of writing.

Meetings are open to anyone wanting to improve their writing or learn about publishing, but are not restricted to writers (everyone is always welcome!). There are no dues and meeting attendance is not required to be considered a member of the Guild. PCWG publishes The North Georgia Writer on a quarterly basis (January, April, July, October). The North Georgia Writer is free and can be found in any Paulding County Library as well as at the Hiram Bookstore. PCWG was founded in 2007 by Dana Freeman. Contact Dana at freeman9593@comcast.net for further information regarding meeting locations.
