Austin Middle Principal Named Harvester's Headmaster

Joel Slater, a resident of Hiram, will join the Douglasville school next month.

The School Board commissioned a Headmaster Search Committee earlier this year comprised of parents, faculty/staff and board members. The committee was given the responsibility of providing superior headmaster candidates for the school board to interview. After the committee provided several candidates, board members selected Joel Slater as the school’s next headmaster.

According to an announcement from the school Wednesday, Slater has 12 years of experience as a school administrator, most recently as principal of in Douglasville. His teaching experience includes 10 years of elementary and secondary experience, in both Christian and public schools.

Slater's service to his church, profession and community has included roles as educational administrator, teacher, online university professor, student teacher supervisor, youth leader, Divorce Care for Kids counselor, and children's church director.

Slater and his wife, Barbara, have been married 26 years and have three boys—Michael (17), Matthew (16) and Andrew (13). They are members of the and serve its body through multiple roles of ministry. The Slaters reside in Hiram.

Slater will assume his duties as Headmaster effective July 1.
