Dallas Native Conley Shines in UGA’s Opener

Georgia Bulldogs fans in Paulding saw a former local player make an impact on the field this past Saturday.

A former wide receiver for the Wolfpack, Dallas native Chris Conley made a special play on UGA’s special teams unit during a second-quarter punt by Buffalo University. Conley blocked the punt, which led to his team getting the ball at Buffalo’s 23-yard-line. The play would ultimately lead to a 35-yard field goal for his team.

In addition to his successful block, Conley during the game caught two passes from Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray for a total of 20 yards.

Conley and received one of the team’s Newcomer of the Year Awards as a freshman last fall. He appeared in 11 games last season, catching 16 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his contributions last season, Conley had some thoughts on where the team needs improvement from last year and describes how focusing on those areas has made a huge difference

“We were disappointed in what we did on special teams last year,” he said. “We felt like we could have made more plays last year and we should have done better. We should have been better prepared. We came into this season wanting to play all three dimensions of our game great—offense, defense and special teams. To do that, you need to have guys make plays.”
