Frugal Family: Two Restaurants to Give Free Food to Lucky Few

Beginning at 6 a.m. today, the Dallas Chick-fil-A will give 100 people a free Chick-fil-A meal every week for a year. Also, you could be among 50 who will win free wings for a year on Friday at Buffalo Wild Wings in Hiram.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us stretch our dollars.

This column will be dedicated to giving you five great local deals each week that will help your family’s bottom line. Since we do the scouting for you, you can save time as well as money.

1. Sign Up Now for Free Backpacks and to Volunteer

Deal: Pre-registration is required by 4 p.m. on July 20 or when the time slots are full (whichever comes first) for the third-annual Give Kids a Chance Back to School Celebration. Sponsors include A Fresh Hope and Engage Atlanta. This free event will take place on July 23 at and . (Choose whichever location is most convenient for you.) However, medical screenings will be available only at Hiram Elementary.

Children who are pre-registered will receive a free backpack with basic school supplies. Any backpacks not claimed on July 23 will be donated. Families are invited to these free events.

This year's goal is to provide for 1,500 children, says Engage Atlanta and Community Makeover Director Paul Richardson of West Ridge Church. School supplies are being collected at the church. Cash donations of $20 will sponsor a backpack filled with supplies.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 23.

2. Dallas Chick-fil-A Grand Opening on Wednesday, Thursday

Deal: On Wednesday, the “First 100” will win a free Chick-fil-A meal (sandwich, fries and drink) every week for a year, totaling 52 meals. Visit this link for the rules.

Some are planning to drive from out of state, arriving around 4 a.m. Wednesday. The drawing actually begins at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The Paulding Chamber of Commerce will host the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

3. Buffalo Wild Wing's Grand Opening Special

Deal: The first 50 guests at the grand re-opening of on Friday will get free wings for a year.

4. More Stevi B’s Pizza Specials

Deal: On Sundays only this month, children between the ages of 3 and 10 may eat for 99 cents after 4 p.m. at in Hiram. (That price includes only the buffet only; the drink is extra.)

On Wednesdays this month, Stevi B's offers a $19.99 Family Meal Deal, including 4 buffets, 4 drinks and 6 tokens. Remember to ask for this special at the register.

5. Starbucks Ice Cream Coupon

Deal: You probably could guess it by the weather, but July is officially National Ice Cream Month. To celebrate, Starbucks is offering this coupon for $1.25 off any pint of their ice cream sold in grocery stores.
