South Paulding High, Austin Middle and Dugan Elementary were locked down as a precaution, the Paulding school system said. The incident did not occur on school property.

The schools resumed normal activities, according to a school district Facebook post around 10 a.m. That post said:

Good morning. This message is to update you regarding the emergency situation at SPHS, Austin, and Dugan. The Paulding County Sherriff’s Department has resolved the incident and are clearing our schools to resume normal activities. SPHS students who were transported to Austin Middle will be taken by bus to their school. We appreciate the support from the Sherriff’s Department and the school personnel who assisted in this matter. Again, at this time schools are resuming their normal activities.

According to media reports, the schools were locked down after 8:30 a.m. Paulding County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Henson said the chase began in Carroll County and ended near the schools when the suspects crashed their vehicle and fled on foot.

South Paulding High and Dugan Elementart share a campus on Winn Road; Austin Middle is located nearby on Ridge Road.

There is no information available on the suspects at this time.
