School Board Certifies Completion of School Expansions

With expansions of North Paulding and South Paulding high schools complete, the district will now seek capital outlay reimbursements for the projects.

Paulding County School Board members  took a step Tuesday toward getting state funds to reimburse the district for expansion projects at two schools.

The board approved two measures certifying that all accounts for labor, materials and construction had been paid in full on the work at North Paulding and South Paulding high schools.

Marty Turner, executive director of Facilities and Maintenance, said the district is slated to receive a capital outlay reimbursement of about $835,000 for the North Paulding project, which saw the construction of 12 additional classrooms, with two being science classrooms and one a computer-lab-ready room. The work came in at about $1.6 million—a savings of $121,228 over the original contract price.

South Paulding also received 12 more classrooms, including two for science, one furnished for technology, and an art room. Turner said the system is due back $889,785 for the project that was completed at a cost of $1.6 million. The price tag came in significantly lower than the original contract price of $1.9 million.
