The South Paulding High School band will be doing its best this weekend to drum up votes in an Atlanta-based radio show’s contest.
Members of the “Spirit of South Paulding” have until midnight Sunday to get their supporters to vote for them in The Bert Show’s "Battle of the High School Marching Bands." The band was one of 28 to begin the contest and is now one of only two remaining.
South Paulding is squaring off against Brookwood High, and Bert Show listeners and supporters of the schools’ bands who visit the contest website can view videos of the two squads performing and then vote on their favorite in the competition’s ultimate matchup.
Voting ends Sunday, and the winner set to be announced Monday. The winning band will receive $5,000, according to the radio show’s Facebook page.
Should South Paulding win, the funds will go toward the cost of concert uniforms, according to Band Director Christopher Carr, who spoke to Dallas-Hiram Patch on Tuesday.
Hear Carr and Shelby Rhodes, a junior in the “Spirit of South Paulding,” talk about the band’s entry into the contest in the attached video.
