Tempers Flare at Redistricting Forum

Several parents spoke during Thursday's forum at East Paulding High to address their concerns over the proposed middle school attendance zone maps.

The school system is going through the redistricting process with its middle schools as officials . Redistricting is being utilized to fill the new school and relieve overcrowding in some of the district’s existing middle schools.

Thursday’s public forum at was the third such opportunity for school stakeholders to learn about redistricting and where the system stands with it. At the forum, parents were presented with copies of the proposed school attendance maps and a PowerPoint presentation on the redistricting topic; the presentation is attached to this article in PDF form.

Several parents spoke during the forum to address their concerns, such as where their students would be moved, bus routes involved in the new school placements and the schools’ attendance boundaries.

Remaining unchanged from the initial redistricting proposal released in December are the attendance zones of four middle schools—, , Scoggins and . Those four schools remain unaffected by the redistricting process. The middle schools slated to be affected are , , and .

Officials are set to take feedback from Thursday’s forum and communications made through the district’s website as they craft final versions of the attendance maps, which will be present to county school board members at their Feb. 14 meeting.
