'Whiz Kid' Sydney Johnekins is Raising Funds for Cancer Research

Johnekins, a fourth-grade student at Ragsdale Elementary, has been on WSB Radio this week to tell her story and to raise money for the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Hospital of Atlanta.

Johnekins is a fourth-grader at Ragsdale Elementary who was diagnosed with malignant sarcoma several years ago.

She has been a successful and amazing survivor who continues to strive to knock out cancer and to raise awareness for others.

This week at Ragsdale Elementary, Johnekins set up Syd's Snack Shack to sell Little Debbie snack cakes and to raise $1,000 for the Care-A-Thon to benefit the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Hospital of Atlanta.

The principal at Ragsdale, Ashley Anderson, praised the efforts of Johnekins and referred to her as "the head-of-the-class student in many ways."

"Sydney has stayed on the honor roll the last two years, met or exceeded every Georgia Performance Standard, showcased her talents in the chorus group, and exhibited perfect conduct. She has done this while having to be out for numerous appointments and treatments," Anderson said.
