Words Get Dressed Up in Dallas Elementary's Vocab Parade

The Vocabulary Parade is part of Dallas Elementary School's ongoing effort to increase word recognition among students

The students at Dallas Elementary School created costumes that sent a host of words marching around the school on Oct. 31. Parents were invited to laugh, applaud, and be amazed by the students’ ingenuity. The Grand Marshal was retired teacher Helen Fox who led the parade.

The Vocabulary Parade is part of Dallas Elementary School’s ongoing effort to increase word recognition among students. The parade concept is based on Debra Frasier’s book,

Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster, where a student confuses the word "miscellaneous" for the person, Miss Alaineus. In this hilarious story, great embarrassment is assuaged by turning this mortifying mistake into a winning costume at the Vocabulary Parade. Shown is Jonathan Gonzalez in his costume.
