Judge: East Paulding’s Zimmerman Can Attend Graduation

Jake Zimmerman is set to attend his high school’s May 26 graduation ceremony following a judge’s ruling Thursday.

East Paulding High’s senior class president will be able to walk across the stage with his peers as they receive their diplomas next weekend. U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy in Rome today issued a preliminary injunction that will allow Jake Zimmerman to take part in his school’s graduation ceremony, according to attorney Lester Tate of Akin & Tate in Cartersville, who is representing Zimmerman. Zimmerman was one of 24 teens arrested following the March 11 vandalism of East Paulding High School and surrounding areas. Last month, he was barred from extracurricular activities, including graduation, following the school board’s 6-1 vote to uphold the original punishment levied by school district staff and add the additional stipulations. …

Local Chatt Tech Player Hyppolite Signs

Chattahoochee Tech guard Stephan Hyppolite signed a scholarship to play for Point University last week.

Chattahoochee Technical College guard Stephan Hyppolite signed a scholarship to play for Point University on Thursday at the college’s Marietta campus. Hyppolite, who was already committed to Point as a preferred walk-on, is joining CTC teammates Brannon Hopkins and Devonn Pierce at the school in West Point, Ga. According to a Chattahoochee Tech news release, Hyppolite redshirted this season for the Golden Eagles, and will have four full years of eligibility with the Skyhawks. The 6-foot-1-inch combo guard lettered in basketball, football and track at Paulding County High School, making the all-region team as a wide receiver. Chattahoochee Tech finished 19-12 this season, its second as a member of the National Junior College Athletic …

School Jobs Cut; Teens Take Deal; Soldier Returns

The Paulding County School System is set to cut 53 positions for the next fiscal year follow action taken by the school board Tuesday. Paulding students reached for the gold at Thursday’s Special Olympics event held at Hiram High School.
