Is NCAA Rule Banning Hashtags Too Strict?

College football programs are not allowed to place website addresses or social media messages on the field due to rules that were recently amended by the NCAA. Tell us what you think of the athletic association’s decision.

#GoDawgs or #GoJackets? Whichever your preference, you won’t see either on an NCAA football field this fall. The NCAA’s recent “Bulletin on Field Markings, Uniforms, etc.” expressly prohibits “social media designations such as URL’s and hashtags” (Hashtags are words or phrases that are preceded by the # symbol that can be used online to group messages together or to rally support for a common cause, such as for a favorite team.). The rule means that while you may see your fellow fans using Twitter and other social media platforms while at the game, you won’t see “#SicemDawgs” between the hedges at Sanford Stadium or “#GaTech” on Historic Grant Field in Bobby Dodd Stadium. Speaking of UGA, another Southeastern Conference school, Mississippi…

What Does NBA Player’s Coming Out Mean to You?

Former Atlanta Hawks player Jason Collins, most recently with the Washington Wizards, recently came out as gay. Tell us what impact, if any, you think his announcement will have.

"I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay," says Jason Collins in a story set to be published in the May 6 issue of Sports Illustrated. The pro basketball veteran has been a member of six teams in 12 seasons in the league, including three in Atlanta—he last donned a Hawks jersey during the 2011-2012 season. But many are likely to deem his coming out as something bigger than his on-the-court career, as he has become the first male U.S. athlete in a major professional sport to declare that he is gay. "I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation,” Collins told Sports Illustrated. Collins’ announcement was lauded by several of his …

(Continuing from my previous statement) Homosexuality is considered an acceptable practice by many in our world today - even by some churches. But society does not set the standard for God's law. Christians also need to read Romans chapter 2 about judging. Paul told the Christians "you are just as bad, and you have no excuse!" So, I do not judge but only point out scripture for those who may be …   more ›

Will Atlanta Braves Return to Playoffs in 2013?

Chipper Jones is gone, and there are many new faces in the lineup. Share your predictions.

The Atlanta Braves have been winners the past two seasons. But the fact is, they have not been to the playoffs either season, although the playoffs once were routine for them. And when the Braves opened their 2013 season Monday at Turner Field, there were still challenges. Gone is team icon Chipper Jones, who retired after the 2012 season. Also, the Braves are without All Star catcher Brian McCann (Duluth High) for at least the first couple of weeks. Replacing Jones' bat and presence in the lineup will be a large challenge. Also gone is utility player Martin Prado, who was traded to Arizona in the deal that brought outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson to Atlanta. Another key addition was free agent outfielder B.J. Upton…

2013 Final Four: Who's Gonna Win It All in Atlanta?

Who do you think will win it all? Syracuse, Michigan, Wichita State or Louisville?

The Final Four of the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament is set. Atlanta basketball fans are ready to go. Today's the day. We've got a clear-cut favorite (Louisville), an underdog on a hot streak (Wichita State) and two other programs with March Madness experience (Syracuse and Michigan). See also: If you're not sure who to root for, here are some suggestions: Despite being located 1,000 miles away from Atlanta, Wichita State has a strong tie to the Peach State. Carl Hall of Cochran, Ga., and Tekele Cotton of Marietta are significant contributors for the Shockers. Hall, a 6-foot-8 senior, is a starter who averages 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds. He's averaged 14 points in four tournament games. Cotton, a 6-2 sophomore who played at …

Nosebleed or Premium Seats for NCAA Final Four?

Prices range $189 to $7,200 for both days, $124 to $3,375 for the two semifinal games and $90 to $3,150 for the championship game.

It's not every day the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four comes to town. In fact, it's only happened three times before in Atlanta — 1977 (won by Marquette), 2002 (Maryland) and 2007 (Florida). Atlanta hosts the 2013 Final Four April 6 and 8 at the Georgia Dome. But if you want to see the games live, don't expect a hometown discount. According to Final4Atlanta.com, individual tickets can cost up to $7,200 for the semifinals and championship games. And a suite runs as high as $36,000. But don't let those numbers shock you out of the building. Individual-game tickets are as low as $90, as long as you're fine with the nosebleed sections in the 70,000-seat Georgia Dome. Prices range $189 to $7,200 for both days, $124 to $3,375 for the two …
