Rotary Club Names Teacher of the Month

Shannon Patterson, of Abney Elementary School, was recently selected of the Paulding County Rotary Club Teacher of the Month for March.

Shannon Patterson, of Abney Elementary School, was recently selected of the Paulding County Rotary Club Teacher of the Month for March. She was honored at the monthly Board of Education meeting as well as at a breakfast with the Rotary Club. She was presented with a trophy, check, and several other prizes. "We at Abney Elementary are very proud of Shannon and all that she does for our students," said Scott Brock, Abney principal.

Georgia's First Lady Visits Abney [VIDEO]

Sandra Deal read to students at W.C. Abney Elementary Thursday afternoon, her visit the result of several students’ letters to the governor’s office sent last year.

A handful of first-graders’ letters brought Georgia’s First Lady to Paulding County. Sandra Deal, the wife of Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, came to W.C. Abney Elementary Thursday afternoon to read to students. Her visit to the school included a stop in Karen Edfeldt’s first-grade classroom. It was the efforts of Edfeldt’s class last year that led to Deal’s visit to Dallas.   “One of my students from last year, Olivia Kirkman, was the poster child for food allergy awareness for the state of Georgia, so she went for a day at the capitol. My students, we were working on persuasive writing, so they wrote letters to the governor inviting him to come and visit our school, and Olivia took them and delivered them. Last Chance: Help Paulding Schools Win Computer Labs

Online voting in a contest giving five schools each a $10,000 computer lab ends tonight at 9; two Paulding County schools are among the entries.

Supporters of two Paulding County schools have until 9 tonight to cast online votes to help the schools each earn a free computer lab. The Rack Room Shoes Back to School Photo Contest had customers upload photos of themselves, their kids or their loved ones, and share the name of their favorite school. The contest is now in its voting period, and those who log onto the website can cast their votes for their favorite entry. The top five entries will earn a computer lab valued up to $10,000 for their schools, while those who submitted the winning entries each will receive a MacBook Pro. Abney Elementary Receives $1,000 from 11Alive

The Paulding school won a grant for being one of the five schools to receive the most votes in the Education Nation Facebook contest, 11Alive reports.
