Former Hiram Councilman Sims Dies
Alvin Sims, a longtime Hiram city councilman who in 2011 was appointed to complete an unexpired council term, died on Sunday. His funeral is set for Thursday.
Funeral arrangements have been set for Alvin Sims, the longtime Hiram councilman who passed away Sunday. The 70-year-old Hiram resident was an U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, according to his obituary. He also served on the Hiram City Council for 25 years. The council veteran returned to serve the city in 2011, appointed to fill the unexpired term of Post 1 Councilman Jack Paris, who had been appointed interim mayor after the resignation of Mayor Carmen Rollins. Sims served as the Post 1 councilman until the end of 2011 and was succeeded by Rollins’ husband, Prather "Pep" Rollins, who won his election to the seat that November.
