Athlete of the Week: Kamani Thomas

Every week, Dallas-Hiram Patch will select a high school athlete who exceeded expectations on the field of play.

East Paudling's Kamani Thomas ran for 142 yards and two scores when the Raiders beat Kell last Friday and has been selected as the Dallas-Hiram Patch Athlete of the Week. When the sixth-ranked Raiders took on the seventh-ranked Longhorns, a rout wasn't in the forecast. But Thomas helped his team blank Kell with a combination of speed, power and agility.

Athlete of the Week: Destiny Bryan

Every Thursday, Dallas-Hiram Patch will select a high school athlete who exceeded expectations on the field of play.

Getting it done on the court as well as in the classroom is the exact definition of student-athlete. Senior setter Destiny Bryan is the epitome of student-athlete and is this week’s Dallas-Hiram Athlete of the Week. Bryan is a team captain on the volleyball court and is responsible for leading South Paulding to several victories this season already, according to head coach Shannon Wannemacher. In the season-opening match, Bryan scored 13 consecutive points and has 22 aces at this point in the season. “Her leadership and ability to run an offense have become an integral part of our program,” Wannemacher said. Bryan is also in the top 30 of her class and maintains a 3.4 GPA.

Athlete of the Week: Terrell Hannah

Every Thursday, Dallas-Hiram Patch will select a high school athlete who exceeded expectations on the field of play.

When starting running back Kamani Thomas left Friday’s game with a foot injury, Terrell Hannah jumped in and the offense didn’t miss a beat. For this, Hannah is the Dallas-Hiram Patch Athlete of the Week. Hannah, a senior at East Paulding High School, rushed for 115 yards on 12 carries after filling in on offense. He’s also a starter on defense and recorded four tackles and one assist against South Paulding. East Paulding defensive coordinator Ben Stready was impressed with the effort from Hannah playing on both sides of the ball last week. “This young man stepped up when his team needed him and never once complained about having to go both ways.”
