13 Black Friday Shopping Tips

Have your own suggestions on how to survive the upcoming shopping frenzy? Add them in the comments.

Thanksgiving may be the great feast day, but for many, it’s the day after that has moms celebrating. Speak Out: Christmas Shopping Starting Too Early?

Want a great deal? You may have to spend part of your Thanksgiving to get it. Tell us what you think about retailers pushing the start of the holiday shopping season onto Turkey Day.

Looking to grab some great Black Friday deals? Better be prepared to scarf down the turkey and put away the pumpkin pie quickly. It’s becoming a tradition for the holiday shopping season to start well before the Thanksgiving leftovers are gone. But your holiday food might still be warm by the time retailers offer the first “Black Friday” deal. Take, for example, Walmart. The retailer is rolling out its first Black Friday deals Thursday—that’s Thanksgiving night—at 8 p.m. Not to be outdone, Target is inviting customers to grab its Black Friday deals at 9 p.m. Thursday. The early deals means those hoping to save money during their holiday shopping will be spending part of another holiday heading to stores, fighting the crowds and waiting in …

It leaves nothing for kids to get excited about, by the time you start decorating and putting out displays in the store the same time as halloween, it's confusing. Let us have the opportunity to "Give Thanks" with our families. The poor folk who work retail deserve that time for themselves. Enough already!   more ›

Local Deaths, Shop Local, Safety Measures, Football Season Ends

As a new week begins, take a few minutes to recap our top headlines from last week, Nov. 20-26.

Last week was a time for filling dinners and shopping for many, but for some, it was filled with tragedy. A Paulding man collapsed at the end of the Gobble Jog in Marietta and died Thursday, while a Dallas man was killed in a wreck in Tennessee a day before. As always, our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those affected by these deaths. Shoppers in Paulding, across the metro Atlanta area and across the country took advantage of early shopping hours and deals in this year’s Black Friday movement, and we brought you a live blog of what we and our readers saw in stores across the region. While the big box stores may have been the focus of many Friday, the next day was about the smaller guy, as it marked the observance…

Delamont: Support Paulding's Small Businesses

Carolyn Delamont, the president of the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce, shares the importance of supporting local businesses with your holiday shopping.

By shifting 10 percent of those purchases from nonlocal businesses to independently owned private local businesses, we can have a profound impact on our Paulding County economy because of the multiplier effect. Unlike a dollar spent at large chain stores or businesses outside Paulding, half or more of each dollar spent at a local business stays in Paulding. Spending even a small percentage of your holiday dollars strengthens our local economy and forms a synergy, which creates jobs locally, generates economic growth within our community, inspires others to form new independent ventures, …
