As a new week begins, take a few minutes to recap our top headlines from last week, Nov. 20-26.
Last week was a time for filling dinners and shopping for many, but for some, it was filled with tragedy. A Paulding man collapsed at the end of the Gobble Jog in Marietta and died Thursday, while a Dallas man was killed in a wreck in Tennessee a day before. As always, our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those affected by these deaths. Shoppers in Paulding, across the metro Atlanta area and across the country took advantage of early shopping hours and deals in this year’s Black Friday movement, and we brought you a live blog of what we and our readers saw in stores across the region. National Small Business Saturday—Nov. 26! The average consumer, according to the National Retail Federation, spends about $700 during the holiday season. By shifting 10 percent of those purchases from nonlocal businesses to independently owned private local businesses, we can have a profound impact on our Paulding County economy because of the multiplier effect. Unlike a dollar spent at large chain stores or businesses outside Paulding, half or more of each dollar spent at a local business stays in Paulding.
