Cops for Kids Gets ‘Super’ Donation

Eric Matthews, a former wide receiver for the Super Bowl XXXI Champion Green Bay Packers, made a donation Wednesday to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Cops for Kids program.

On Wednesday, former wide receiver for the Super Bowl XXXI Champion Green Bay Packers Eric Matthews donated toys and clothing to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Cops For Kids program. Matthews, who is the founder and CEO of E-Matt Athletics, got in contact with Hiram Police Chief Gary Yandura to find out how he could help local underprivileged children this Christmas. Yandura contacted Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge to get Matthews in contact with the Cops For Kids staff at the Sheriff’s Office. By the time the toys and clothing reached the Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Tracy Parker (Cops For Kids) had already found needy children to take the items. Related news: How Can Nonprofits Use Patch? PCSO: ‘Cops for Kids’ Phone Solicitations Fake

Paulding authorities have received reports of these phone calls in recent days.

Paulding County deputies are warning the public that those claiming to seek funds to help a nonprofit’s Christmastime project are nothing but a bunch of Grinches. According to Paulding County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ashley Henson, authorities have received reports of residents receiving phone solicitations from individuals seeking funds for Cops for Kids, an annual outreach program by the sheriff’s office. Henson says the Cops for Kids program does no solicitations for the program by phone, and warns those who receive such calls not to give any such callers money or personal information. Those with questions about Cops for Kids or those wanting to report any suspicious calls regarding the program can call Lt. Dee Morris at 770-443-3010…

Video: Cops Give 250 Kids a Christmas

Saturday’s annual Cops for Kids Christmas shopping event had children picking out toys and more with the help of local law enforcement.

An estimated 250 underprivileged children took home Christmas gifts from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office's 15th-annual Cops for Kids Christmas shopping event Saturday. Held at the Dallas Walmart, participants—typically children ages 9 to 12, many of whom are on free or reduced breakfast and lunch at their schools—were allowed to spend $150 as they shopped in the morning with a member of area law enforcement agencies. Though many children were able to take home some of their desired Christmas gifts, event organizers say they had to turn down families who applied for assistance after the nonprofit had already reached this year’s capacity weeks before Saturday’s shopping day. The campaign also was affected by lower donations this year. …
