Second Airshow Slated for October 2013

Paulding Airport Authority members last week gave their blessing to a second-annual airshow, the first of which was held last month.

The Paulding County Northwest Atlanta Airport Authority spent a fair chunk of its Nov. 21 meeting time recapping Salute America 2012, the site’s first airshow, which was held last month. Brent Sparks, who will serve as director of next year’s show, said that in terms of goals for the show—which included safety, promotion of the airport site, presentation and event logistics—the show was a success, even though from a fiscal standpoint, it did not actually manage to break even. “The show was world-class and people can’t just pull that out of their hat,” Sparks told members of the airport board. Organizers were prepared for a turnout of anywhere from 6,000 up to 12,000, but estimates were closer to approximately 4,500. Sparks said that …

Video: Carmichael, Leggett Eyeing Post 1 Seat

One new face is guaranteed to grace the Paulding County Board of Commissioners come January.

At least two non-incumbents are guaranteed to win county offices in Tuesday’s Republican primary. One of those non-incumbents is already set to take office this January—Richard Manous is unopposed in the Paulding School Board’s District 4 race. The other race that will lead to a non-incumbent taking office is that for the Post 1 seat on the county’s Board of Commissioners. Neither office had Democratic or independent candidates enter their respective races. Vying to become Post 1’s representative are David Carmichael and Heidi Leggett. The winner of Tuesday’s race will succeed current Post 1 Commissioner Larry Ragsdale, who initially qualified for reelection but withdrew his candidacy as the qualifying period ended.
