Dallas-Hiram Patch and the Felix family handed over a $100,000 check to the Paulding School District on Friday, February 1. Last month, the Felix family's holiday house outshone the other entries in Patch's Deck the House Contest and the family took home the big win for Paulding. Joe Felix, a celebrated social studies teacher, thanked the Paulding community for their continued support. The family finished second in last year's contest and credited this year's victory to votes garnered through social media. Students and faculty gathered with personalized posters to extend their gratitude to the family. It was a positive experience from start to finish and video footage from the celebration will be posted later this month! Check out these …

The waiting is nearly over. Tonight, Paulding County Schools will receive $100,000 from Patch thanks to a Dallas family’s Christmas decorations. Joey Felix and his family had their Dallas home selected by Patch readers across the country as the “best decked” house in the 2012 Deck the House contest, which asked residents of Patch towns to submit photos and videos of their homes decorated for the holiday season. Winning the contest meant their local school district—Paulding County Schools—would receive $100,000. Winning wasn’t easy. It was neck-and-neck in the final hours of the contest, Felix recalled right after the contest ended. But after placing second in the 2011 contest, the Paulding home took top honors in the 2012 competition. …

Joey Felix recounted the final hours of Patch’s Deck the House contest and the news of winning $100,000 for Paulding County Schools. See what he had to say in our video interview.
“Intense” is how Joey Felix recounted the last few hours of Patch’s Deck the House contest. The contest saw Felix’s Dallas home and a house in Coventry, R.I., run neck-and-neck until the very end Friday at noon. When the dust settled, the local entry stood atop the field of 25 entries with nearly 11,000 online votes—about 300 ahead of the Coventry home’s total. The win will pay off for Paulding County Schools, as the district will be awarded $100,000 from Patch. The check is expected to be presented during a local presentation early in 2013. A day after the contest concluded, Felix spoke to Dallas-Hiram Patch about winning it and how countless others helped him with his home's decorations and in promoting his contest entry. He also …

In this year's Deck the House contest, the second time was the charm. Joseph Felix's Dallas home outshined the other 24 finalists to win the 2012 Deck the House contest and $100,000 for Paulding County Schools. After placing second in the nationwide voting in the 2011 contest, the Felix home received nearly 11,000 votes this year to finally win Deck the House. The home, with 100,000 computer animated holiday lights choreographed to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You," received about 300 more votes than a home in Coventry, R.I., which finished in second place. Judging by the 80 comments on the Felixes' Deck the House submission, visiting the home has become a holiday tradition in Paulding County. Many people said they bring …

That’s because the district could be mere hours away from securing the $100,000 grand prize in Patch’s Deck the House contest. The Felix family’s Dallas home is the only Georgia entry among the 25 finalists in the contest, and if Patch users select it as the best “decked” home, then Paulding County Schools will receive $100,000. Hear from Joey Felix about how his family’s Christmas light display began and what it features. The Felix family home is Georgia’s sole finalist in Patch’s Deck the House contest, and your votes could bring the $100,000 prize to Paulding County Schools.
Joey Felix estimates that his home’s Christmas display was the result of about 100 man-hours put in by himself, his family and neighbors. That effort could ultimately be worth $1,000 an hour if online voters show their support for Felix’s Dallas home, as it’s one of the 25 finalists in Patch’s Deck the House contest. The entry that earns the most votes in the contest will earn the local school system—in this case, Paulding County Schools—$100,000. Voting in Patch’s Deck the House contest continues through noon Friday, Dec. 28. All you have to do is visit this page to browse a gallery of the finalists and cast your vote. You may vote once per day. Dallas-Hiram Patch spoke to Felix in November as he and his family put some of the finishing …
