It’s been said that it takes a village to raise a child. But it’s bound to take an entire community working together to help bring in $100,000 for the children in Paulding County Schools. Voting is underway in Patch’s Deck the House contest. There are 25 finalists in the contest but only one winner will earn the grand prize—$100,000 for their community’s school system. The Felix family’s Dallas home was one of the 25 chosen for having spectacular holiday lights and decorations. Their home was named a finalist last year and came so close to bringing Paulding County Schools the contest's $100,000 grand prize—it placed second in the nationwide voting. This is where you come in. Until Dec. 28, you can visit this page to browse a gallery of the…

You voted and this house was the top local vote-getter in our Deck the House contest.
Who has the best “decked” house in Dallas and Hiram? According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, the Felix home had the best holiday lights in Dallas-Hiram Patch. Their display boasts an estimated 100,000 lights and 244 animated computer channels. If the family's name sounds familiar, it's likely because their home was selected last year as Dallas-Hiram's Deck the House winner. It then was selected as one of the 24 finalists from across the Patch nation. The home was almost popular enough to win Paulding County Schools the contest's $100,000 grand prize—it placed second in the nationwide voting. It remains to be seen how far the Felix home will go this year—we had tons of national entries in this year’s contest, and …

The Felix family didn't win the national Patch house-decorating contest, but Dallas-Hiram Patch users made it exciting.
So close, and yet so far. We begged and pleaded for your votes for the Felix house in Patch's Deck the House contest, and the results were fantastic. With a possible $100,000 donation for the Paulding County School District on the line, the fabulous Felix house received 8,320 votes from Dallas-Hiram Patch users and others who wanted to see that money come to Georgia. Unfortunately, a house in Davis, CA, entered by the Powell family received 12,156 votes, so the Davis Joint Unified School District will receive the donation. But your support for the Felix family and the Paulding schools deserves a standing, light-flashing ovation. Out of more than 860 Patches in the country, only 24 had a house recognized as a finalist. Out of those 24 …

More than three weeks of preparation and effort from family and friends went into the Christmas display at the Felix family’s home. The Dallas residence is one of 24 finalists in Patch’s Deck the House contest.
Joey Felix may trace the origins of his family’s annual Christmas light display to his childhood, but luckily for him, he doesn’t have to work on it alone. “I have been decorating for Christmas since I was a child. I think I developed a love for the holidays from my grandmother and mother,” Felix said. “As a little boy I would help them decorate and every Christmas Eve we would outline my grandmother’s entire driveway and sidewalk with luminaries. “When my wife and I met, I started decorating her house—[this was] about 11 years ago. We did not make the jump to computer animation until 2006, [and] we get bigger every year.” Fast-forward to Christmas 2011 and the decorations Felix installed have moved far beyond the luminaries along the …
