DOT Crews Prepared for Winter Weather

Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation say their workers in northwest Georgia are gearing up for the potential impact of snow and ice on the roads.

The first batch of the 2013 winter weather is expected to hit northwest Georgia late this afternoon and evening with the mountains getting some snow accumulation. For crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation, that means the potential for long days and even longer nights keeping the roads clear and safe for the traveling public. Georgia DOT workers in northwest Georgia are busy this afternoon gearing up for this potential winter weather event. Drivers Could See Roadwork on SR 120 This Week

Paulding drivers during business hours may see maintenance crews on one major thoroughfare through the end of the week, weather permitting.

Drivers traveling on State Route 120 in Paulding County could see maintenance workers on the job this week. Georgia Department of Transportation crews are set to work on sealing the cracks on the surface of the roadway of SR 120. Sealing pavement cracks is a Georgia DOT maintenance practice that helps to prevent water from entering the base and sub-base of the roadway and extends the pavement life by at least three years while improving rideability on that roadway. Crews are also scheduled to resume work on trimming overgrown vegetation along SR 120 as part of the DOT’s integrated roadside vegetation management maintenance program. Roadway Repairs Set for Today, Friday

Paulding drivers during business hours may see maintenance crews on one major thoroughfare through the end of the week.

Drivers traveling on State Route 120 in Paulding County are likely to see construction workers on the job this week. Georgia Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be repairing deteriorating asphalt spots on SR 120 in Paulding today and Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, including winter weather closures, reports of icing or other hazardous conditions on interstates and state routes.
