Hiram Council To See 2013 Budget Draft

Councilmen tonight will see a preliminary version of the city’s fiscal year 2013 budget. Return to Dallas-Hiram Patch on Wednesday for coverage of tonight’s council meeting.

Hiram’s fiscal year 2013 could begin to take shape tonight, as councilmen are slated to review a draft budget. That preliminary budget, along with the 2012 tax digest and 5-year history of levy information also set to be presented to the council tonight, will be made available for public review on Wednesday, giving citizens a week to review it before the council’s next meeting—a work session has been scheduled for Oct. 10 at 6 p.m., with a public hearing on the budget beginning immediately after the work session. In other business, councilmen are slated to: The Hiram City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Hiram Community Center/Council Chambers at 217 Main St. The meeting is open to the public.

Hiram To Construct Welcome Sign

The city council also gave its approval to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event.

Hiram City Council members laid the groundwork Tuesday to realize one of the city’s mothballed projects. Since the administration of Carmen Rollins, the city has been considering a proposal to build a welcome sign on the Powder Springs side of Paulding County. As a part of Tuesday’s regular meeting agenda, the council to accept the conveyance of property from Fairway Hiram II LLC, and to authorize Mayor Doris Devey to sign an access and utility easement agreement from Fairway Hiram II to allow for the construction and maintenance of a City of Hiram welcome sign on the designated property near the county line on the Powder Springs side. Hiram To Cash $595K Certificate of Deposit

More than half the funds will be placed in reserve, while the rest will go into the city’s general fund.

Hiram officials will soon cash a nearly $600,000 certificate of deposit to help fund the city as it continues to operate under its fiscal year 2012 budget. The Hiram City Council during a called meeting Tuesday voted to cash in the United Community Bank CD worth $595,643.38, plus interest earned minus an early withdrawal penalty. Of those funds, $250,000 will be deposited into the city’s general fund account, with the council required to vote on how those funds are spent; the remaining balance will be deposited into a money market account aimed at holding those funds in reserve. “It’s to help with our current budget,” Mayor Doris Devey said of the measure following Tuesday’s meeting. “We’re still under last year’s budget, and that’s …

Rokovitz Hired as Hiram City Manager

The Hiram City Council on Tuesday approved the hire of Robbie Rokovitz, who most recently served as Cedartown’s city manager.

Robbie Rokovitz had already put some hours into his new job when the Hiram City Council confirmed his hire Tuesday. Councilmen during a called meeting Tuesday evening approved a contract between the city and Rokovitz for the position of city manager. Rokovitz, who most recently served as Cedartown’s city manager, was tapped for Hiram’s city manager spot last month pending a contract between him and the city; he had been one of six candidates named as a finalist for the job. Rokovitz, who took his oath of office after his contract was approved, succeeds interim City Manager Billy Beckett, who began serving on a temporary basis in June. Council To Consider City Manager Contract

Robbie Rokovitz could become Hiram’s city manager if the city council approves his contract during tonight’s called meeting.

Hiram could soon end the months-long process of obtaining a city manager if city councilmen approve a contract tonight. The city council is holding a 5:30 p.m. called meting with an agenda that includes a vote on a contract to hire Robbie Rokovitz as city manager. Rokovitz, who is currently Cedartown’s city manager, was tapped for the job last month pending a successful execution of a contract between him and the city; he had been one of six candidates named as a finalist for the job. An approved contract would end officials’ pursuit of a city manager. In February, the council approved a measure to amend the city charter to allow for the addition of a city manager to the payroll. Hiram Council Selects City Manager Candidate

Robbie Rokovitz could assume the new position if he and the city agree on a personnel contract in the coming days.

Hiram officials Monday night made their move to bring a government leader from Polk County over to serve the city in its newly created city manager position. City councilmen spent nearly an hour and 45 minutes discussing personnel issues in closed during Monday’s special called meeting. When they returned to open meeting, they voted unanimously to hire Robbie Rokovitz as city manager pending a successful execution of a contract between him and the city. Rokovitz was one of six candidates who were named earlier this month a finalist for the job. Rokovitz currently serves as Cedartown’s city manager, a position he was named to in October 2010, according to Cedartown’s website. Vote on Hiram City Manager Set for Tonight

Six finalists for the new position were named earlier this month.

City of Hiram officials could name tonight the person they intend to offer the position of city manager—a move that would bring the months-long process of establishing the position of city manager very close to its end. City leaders earlier this month announced the names of six finalists for the job—Karen Degges, Raymon Gibson, Richard D. Hampton, Jack E. Miller, Angela D. Montgomery and Robert T. Rokovitz. One of them could receive the Hiram city council’s approval during a called meeting set for tonight at 6. Tonight’s meeting will see the council enter closed session to discuss personnel issues. Hiram Council Updated on Economic Development Efforts

Jamie Gilbert of Paulding County Economic Development spoke to councilmen at Tuesday night's meeting. And city officials this week are interviewing finalists for Hiram's city manager position.

Hiram is moving into a new phase of economic development as several new companies are added to the local landscape, with the new WellStar Hospital project being only the most obvious part of the picture, according to Jamie Gilbert, director of Paulding County Economic Development. Gilbert addressed Hiram city councilmen Tuesday regarding recent activities and reported what he characterized as “a tremendous amount of activity during the month of June,” with up to 29 projects and/or leads currently in the organization’s pipeline, some of which are support companies in the aerospace or film industries. Inmate Work Detail on Hiram Council’s Agenda

The Hiram City Council meets today at 6:30 p.m. Return to Dallas-Hiram Patch on Wednesday for coverage of tonight’s meeting.

Hiram city councilmen have just two votes to consider at their meeting tonight. The first involves a proposed $39,500 contract with the Georgia Department of Corrections for services of an assigned inmate/detainee work detail for fiscal year 2013. Elected officials also will consider revising the city council meeting calendar. City officials at last week’s work session discussing changing September’s meeting dates as to not coincide with the Sept. 9-11 Clerk’s Fall Conference, which City Clerk Cynthia Geyer is set to attend. Hiram Announces City Manager Finalists

One of the six finalists could be named to the job as early as Friday, Aug. 24.

City of Hiram officials on Thursday released the names of six individuals as finalists for the position of city manager. Following interviews, which have been scheduled for Monday, Thursday and Friday, one of six could be selected by Mayor Doris Devey and city councilmen to fill the position. Should one of them be chosen, the appointment is expected to be made, or shortly after, Friday, Aug. 24. The hire would be the conclusion of the city’s six-month journey toward hiring a city manager. In February, the council approved a measure to amend the city charter to allow for the addition of a city manager to the payroll.
