Derek Ridings has helped student veterans receive money from the federal government to pay for school.
A Dallas resident who helps veterans transition into college at Kennesaw State University has received the university's first Excellence in Service and Leadership Award. According to the Paulding Neighbor, the KSU Presidential Commission on Veterans Affairs presented the award to Derek Ridings on April 22. For three semesters, the Iraq War veteran has worked at the Kennesaw State University’s Veterans Resource Center. The center is a one-stop shop for veterans as they transition into college, and the first of its kind in Georgia. The head football coach at South Paulding High School has been tapped to join the Kennesaw State University football staff as an assistant coach. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tim Glanton tweeted from @timglanton Tuesday that: “I am very excited to be part of the Kennesaw State Coaching Family. They have a Great Administration and a great man in Coach Bohannon.” Nearly two months ago, Kennesaw State hired Brian Bohannon as the school's first head football coach for the Owls' inaugural season in 2015. The Paulding Chamber of Commerce has announceed that Kennesaw State University Athletic Director Vaughn Williams will be the guest speaker for the Feb. 7, Georgia Power Luncheon. Williams is only the second athletic director in the school’s history and oversees Kennesaw State’s 14 NCAA division 1 men’s and women’s sports programs. He received his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts and his master’s degree in Administrative Studies from Boston College. He was a four-year letterman in football at UMass. Williams will talk about exciting plans for Kennesaw State’s athletic program that will add a whole new dimension to the university! Teaching young children is something that Chattahoochee Technical College graduate Hayley Erck wants to do. However, Erck has not stopped her own education, as she is one of the first graduates of the new Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education-Birth through Five Degree Program at Kennesaw State University.
