Mays' prolific second-quarter scoring leads to win.
The North Paulding boys finished the Lake City Classic holiday tournament with a 1-2 record after they fell 83-60 to an athletically talented and deep Mays team on Thursday. Mays had 15 players get significant minutes on the floor and 12 of them scored. The Raiders pressed and fast-broke their way to a 33-point second quarter that allowed them to build a 17-point halftime lead. "They did a good job of what they do. They got up on us a little bit and took advantage," said North Paulding head coach Chris Wolski. "Athletically they're obviously very talented, but they're physical too. They did some things that we didn't have an answer for. So I'm just proud we hung in there for about one and a half quarters." North Paulding got a game-high 22…

Despite Thursday's defeat, the team is focusing on Wednesday's victory
After winning their first game in two and a half years on Wednesday, the North Paulding Wolfpack will have to wait for their first winning streak. A team that North Paulding head coach Monte Majore admitted was still a little hung over from the elation of snapping a long losing streak relapsed in a 59-18 loss to North Clayton in both teams' finale of the Lake City Classic at Allatoona High School. "We got our first win in two and a half seasons yesterday. So we're fine with this," Major said. "Did we come out flat today after that win? Yes. Did I expect that? Kind of, yes. Hoping, no. I hate to lose any time and I don't like losing a game we're not competing in, but at the end of the day we're going to take a lot of positives from this …

A 66-59 win at the Lake City Classic ends a losing streak that dates back to January of 2009.
The North Paulding boys basketball team knocked off Johnson County on Wednesday, 66-59, in second-day action at the Lake City Classic at Allatoona High School. The win for North Paulding is their first of the season and erases a 15-game losing streak that dates back to last season. "It's a big 'ole gorilla off your back," said head coach Chris Wolski after the game. Wolski said that just an hour before tip-off, his coaching staff instilled a new offense and had his guys moving through a dry run. "We tried running a flex a little bit -- worked on it about an hour before the game," said Wolski. "It helped us a little bit, got us to calm down." They also working on controlling the ball more and moved senior Shaquille Carlyle from point guard …

The North Paulding Lady Wolfpack followed the lead of a hot-handed Megan Hart to beat South Paulding on Day 2 of the Lake City Classic.
A typical afternoon at a holiday basketball tournament turned into anything but typical on Wednesday at the Lake City Classic at Allatoona High School. When the North Paulding Lady Wolfpack beat South Paulding 58-40, not only did they win their first game of the season, they erased a long-standing losing streak. "That's our first win in two and a half years," said head coach Monte Major, smiling from ear to ear. "It feels great!" After only scoring four points in the first quarter, and trailing the entire game, North Paulding entered one of those moments in athletics where everything went right. When early foul trouble set in, Major went to his bench. One of the solutions he came up with was junior Megan Hart, who turned in a special …
The Wolfpack found it difficult to score in dropping a first-round game at the Lake City Classic.
In a first-round boys game against Allatoona on Tuesday night, the North Paulding Wolfpack dropped to 0-10 on the season with a 75-52 loss at the Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament at Allatoona High School. The Wolfpack fought hard until the end but had trouble scoring at times throughout the game. "We've had trouble scoring all year," head coach Chris Wolski said. "They did a good job of shutting us down." Allatoona was able to shut down everyone except senior point guard Shaquille Carlyle, who scored 26 points to lead the Wolfpack in scoring. Carlyle "had a phenomenal game," Wolski said. "He's come alive over the last few games and really taken control; he's really playing hard. I'm proud of him." Carlyle was able to dribble and …

The Spartans commit 31 first-half turnovers in a loss to South Atlanta.
The South Paulding girls experienced a first half that can only be described as brutal in their 60-44 loss to South Atlanta on Tuesday in the opening round of the Lake City Classic at Allatoona High School. The Spartans managed just 11 points in the first half, only two of which came in the second quarter. And they turned the ball over a whopping 31 times in the first two quarters against a frenetic South Atlanta press. By the time the second quarter ended, the Spartans were down 27-11. "Obviously we were playing really sloppy, and we've been off on Christmas break," South Paulding head coach Kelly Nye-Hinkson said. "We just weren't playing South Paulding basketball." They rebounded in the second half to make a game of it, cutting the lead…
