Rival Downs North Paulding

Wolfpack senior Chris Kennard scores a game-high 19 points in a 50-31 loss to Allatoona in the Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament opener.

The damage was done. Although North Paulding senior forward Chris Kennard drained 12 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, the 6-foot-3 forward’s efforts were too late. North Paulding High School’s boys basketball team was unable to overcome a blistering first-half shooting performance by host Allatoona to fall 50-31 late Wednesday night in the first-round Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament. Allatoona (9-2) jumped on North Paulding quickly by vaulting out to a 21-9 lead with 3:30 left in the second quarter. They entered halftime holding a 33-13 advantage. Senior guard Will Grant spurred the Buccaneers’ fast start with 12 of his team-high 16 points coming in the first half. “We try to come out of the gate strong so we can …

Wolfpack Girls Hoops Fall

Senior Megan Hart leads North Paulding in the Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament loss.

The North Paulding High School girls basketball team found themselves in 24-13 halftime hole and couldn't recover as Allatoona beat the Wolfpack 53-33 Wednesday night in the first round of its second-annual three-day Lake City Classic Basketball Tournament. Senior guard Megan Hart drained a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with a team-high 10 points for North Paulding, which dropped to 5-6 overall. "We could’ve easily competed (more) with them and maybe even beat them if we would’ve came out strong and played strong all the way through," Hart said. Wolfpack senior guard Jazmin Konnick agreed with Hart's assessment. "We came out kind of flat in the beginning and that really hurt us because we played their game instead of…

Paulding County Advances in Region Tournament

A come-from-behind win moves the Patriots into the second round of the Region 5-AAAA basketball tournament.

When a basketball team jumps out on a 20-1 run in the first quarter like North Paulding did to Paulding County in the first round of the Region 5-AAAA Tournament on Thursday, most people expect a rout. That didn’t happen, and both coaches said they knew that it wouldn’t. Paulding County head coach Anthony Cayetano had very simple advice during the break between the first a second quarter. “Wake up!” During North Paulding’s meeting after the quarter, head coach Chris Wolski warned his team to prepare for a Paulding County run. Boy was he right. The Patriots outscored North Paulding 31-14 in the second quarter to cut that 19-point deficit down to a respectable two points. They managed the huge turnaround with a balanced scoring attack and …

South Paulding and North Paulding Split Varsity Basketball Games

Lady Spartans avenge an earlier loss and North Paulding boys get back on the winning track.

Someone once said revenge is a dish best served cold. It seems that 29 days of cooling was just enough for the South Paulding Lady Spartans. “We definitely wanted revenge because we weren’t healthy and we didn’t have all our players at the Christmas tournament,” said head coach Kelly Nye-Hickson. The Lady Spartans avenged the earlier loss to the Lady Wolfpack by beating them 51-24 at South Paulding on Tuesday. Senior Amber Jones led South Paulding early offensively and defensively as she finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocks. “She was one of my key players that was out during the Christmas tournament,” said coach Nye-Hickson. “This is probably one of her most outstanding games.” South Paulding raised its overall record to 5-…
