As always, our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those affected by these deaths. Shoppers in Paulding, across the metro Atlanta area and across the country took advantage of early shopping hours and deals in this year’s Black Friday movement, and we brought you a live blog of what we and our readers saw in stores across the region. While the big box stores may have been the focus of many Friday, the next day was about the smaller guy, as it marked the observance…

Both the Marietta Daily Journal and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing a family friend, are reporting that Gill died of a massive heart attack and was probably dead when he hit the ground. They also say the Gills were regular runners, and Rose Gill routinely beat her husband until Thursday, when she purposely let him finish first. The funeral for Scotty Gill will be Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home, which says he lived in the Dallas area the past 15 years and was a purchasing agent for Dixie Construction Products for more than 30 years. A Paulding County man collapsed at the end of the Gobble Jog in Marietta and died Thursday. Allen Scott Gill, 53, went down just as he crossed the Marietta Square finish line of the 10K run …

The countdown's on—until kickoff for the NFL games, until shopping time for Black Friday specials and, most important, until Thanksgiving dinnertime. But if you failed to defrost the turkey, don't risk throwing it straight into the turkey fryer just to avoid a tryptophan-withdrawal riot from your Turkey Day guests. OK, honestly, this is just an excuse to watch these videos from our friends at the Cobb County Fire Department and the Gwinnett County Fire Department a few more times. But the safety message—don't be stupid when messing with open fires and gallons of oil—is a good one as well. Have you ever had an unfortunate accident with a turkey fryer?
