Healthy Valentine's Day Treats for Kids

Stressing over what snacks to make for your kids that are low in sugar and high on nutrition? Here are a few tricks.

Calling all Moms and Room Mothers. Stressing over what snacks to make for your kids that are low in sugar and high on nutrition? Here are a few tricks I learned over the years that help to keep your family happy and healthy. Think Pink. For breakfast, try strawberry-flavored cream cheese on a slice of toast or a half bagel topped with sliced strawberries in the shape of hearts or fans. Instead of a fattening milkshake, how about a yogurt smoothie with cherries or raspberries?  Blend one cup of …

Valentine’s Day Dinner … At Waffle House?

If you like your love scattered and smothered, a local restaurant has you covered.

Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, and for some celebrating the holiday, that means a candlelight dinner. For some of those out there dining by candlelight Tuesday, dinner just might include waffles or other breakfast items. Waffle House restaurants across the country are taking reservations for their fifth-annual Valentine’s Dinner, featuring dinner (or breakfast food) by candlelight and white tablecloth service. If that’s the set-up for your perfect date, you’re in luck—the New Hope Waffle House at 20 Hosiery Mill Road in Dallas is one of about two dozen locations in Georgia holding the special event, which will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Reservations at the New Hope restaurant can be made by calling 770-443-8961. House Hunt

House Hunt: Romantic Getaways—Try Before You Buy

Each Thursday we feature the latest and greatest local homes on the market.

House Hunt usually features a variety of homes within local Patch ZIP codes. This week, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we thought you might enjoy exploring romantic getaway homes in Blue Ridge, Ga. Why? It’s only an hour from close enough to commute Atlanta (a straight shot down Interstates 75 and 575), yet nestled in the private and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in Fannin County. Because of its proximity and convenience, more people are gravitating to Blue Ridge and making a “lifestyle” move. Rich history, lakes, mountains, hiking trails, whitewater rafting, year-round festivals and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad add to its unique charm. It’s also a great location for a romantic weekend getaway, family retreat, investment or rental …

Do You Love Baked Goods?

Flour Child Cakery owner and manager Robin Hutcheson tells us what baked goods customers love around Valentine’s Day. Tell us what cookies, cakes and other confections you enjoy.

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but honestly, that’s probably true for all people. So with that in mind, we asked Robin Hutcheson, owner and manager of Flour Child Cakery & Bake Shop in Hiram, about her bakery’s Valentine’s Day wares and what customers tend to buy for their loved ones. Dallas-Hiram Patch: Is Valentine’s Day and/or the days before it typically good for the baking business? Robin Hutcheson: Valentine’s is great for the bakery business! The week leading up to Valentine's Day, people come in to see what is available and to place orders to pick up on Valentine's Day or the day before. We already have quite a few orders.  Patch: What kind of baked goods are popular? Any particular ones popular with …

We ordered a wedding cake 3 months in advance, the cake was not what we ordered, it didn't match the colors, the color of the cake was wrong, the flavor was not correct, it was dry, lopsided, the fondant was uneven, the scrolling was uneven and the delivery guy put his hand in the back.....honestly we would've done better at wal mart.....we complained and was offered only 1/3 of the $300 wedding …   more ›

What’s Your Favorite Love Song?

Tell us what love song(s) you enjoy, or the one(s) you share with your loved one.

So we’re a week away from the holiday of love, Valentine’s Day, and in the spirit of the upcoming holiday, we at Dallas-Hiram Patch want to know some of your favorite love songs. Tell us that song that warms your heart, the one that reminds you of your first kiss, or that song that you and your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. call yours. For me, there are three songs that come to mind. The first is “After All” by Peter Cetera and Cher—my then-future-fiancée and I sang it duet style when it came on the radio on our third date. Jonathan Coulton’s “The Future Soon” is the song I currently have on my phone as my fiancée’s ringtone, and it’s been the way since shortly after we began dating. Last, but certainly not least, is the first…
