Hiram Man Dies in Crash, Fire Destroys Clubhouse

A Hiram man was one of three killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Cartersville early Wednesday morning. George Benjamin White, 43, of Hiram, was driver of the northbound tractor-trailer that crossed the median and struck a concrete support pillar. The passenger in White's truck and the driver of a second tractor-trailer, which also hit a support structure, were killed as well.  A Paulding golf course’s clubhouse was destroyed by fire Tuesday night. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted a man who resided in the area who said his wife spotted the fire shortly after 8 p.m., while WSB-TV reported that the fire broke out about 9 p.m. A daycare teacher from Hiram was arrested after authorities investigated a murder for hire plot…

Man Shot, Killed; Missing Girl; Online Votes Help Paulding

A funeral was held Saturday for the man shot Wednesday by drug task force agents executing a warrant at a Nebo Road home. The man died Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday was identified by authorities, who added that the victim had pointed pepper spray at agents before being shot. A Dallas girl has now been missing a month, and authorities believe she is in the metro Atlanta area. A New York man who operated a motorcycle sustained injuries while a Dallas driver faces charges in the wake of a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday night in Dallas. In Alabama, a Hiram man is facing a list of charges stemming from an investigation into multiple reports of breaking and entering of vehicles, many of them unlocked. Furlough Days Approved; VP Candidates Debate; Voter Registration Deadline

Paulding County employees will be required to take four furlough days in fiscal year 2013. That's down from seven in fiscal year 2012, and county officials say they hope next year will see no furlough days. Vice President Joe Biden and Republican candidate Paul Ryan met in a debate on Thursday night. We ran a live blog during the debate, and the comments just keep on coming. Primrose School was evacuated briefly this week after a bomb threat was called in. No bomb was found. Fake Cops At Large; Candidate in the Race; New School Facilities

Two police impersonators remain at large after a July 6 robbery we told you about earlier this month. Last week, authorities released additional details on the incident, while sketches of the two men said to be involved in the crime were released Thursday. The 17-year-old wanted out of Paulding County after allegedly hitting and running over a boy with a vehicle following a fight between the two turned himself in to authorities in New York days after local authorities announced they were looking for him. Two local schools are nearly ready for the Aug. 1 start of a new school year, and we brought you video features of both last week. Assault Suspect, Fake Cops Sought; Robberies Related?

Crime news led the way in recent days, and one of our most recent news stories warned you about two police impersonators who took a woman’s purse after pulling her over Friday night. We’ll be following up with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office to see if they make any breaks in the case. County authorities Thursday announced they were looking for a teen wanted in a July 1 aggravated assault incident against a boy in the Twelve Oaks subdivision. Later Thursday, it was announced that the teen and his mother might be fleeing to Canada. A robbery at a Douglasville business in June could be linked to a similar crime in Paulding last year. New businesses are coming to Paulding County. A Japenese company is expected to bring 30 jobs to the area, and the county has partnered with Panattoni Development Company for the new Paulding Commerce Park. A Dallas man rescued from a burning truck after a crash on Interstate 20 near Augusta told his story. On Monday, we found out that former Douglasville Mayor Mickey Thompson, who is running for State House District 66, is one of several Douglasville officials whose payments are being looked at by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. A homemade bomb was found at a home on Bethel Church Road. The resident told law enforcement officers that he found the device while mowing his back yard.
