WellStar Becomes Member of Joint Replacement Registry

WellStar Health System recently became a charter member of the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), an independent, not-for-profit database designed to store comprehensive data about joint replacement procedures.

WellStar Health System recently became a charter member of  the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), an independent, not-for-profit database designed to store comprehensive data about joint replacement procedures. Last year, orthopaedic surgeons at WellStar performed more than 2,000 joint surgeries. The AJRR monitors the performance of an artificial joint in a database containing information about the patient, the surgeon who performed the procedure and the hospital where the procedure took place. WellStar Health System is pleased to welcome Guillermo J. Pierluisi, M.D., as vice president of medical affairs for WellStar Paulding and Douglas Hospitals. Dr. Pierluisi brings to WellStar more than 20 years of healthcare experience. Most recently, he served as vice president of emergency medicine services for Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, FL.,. At the same time, he served as state surgeon/chief medical officer for the Army National Guard in Georgia (GAARNG). Under his oversight, the GAARNG’s medical and dental readiness level ranked number one in the nation. Geothermal Drilling on New WellStar Hospital Completed

WellStar Paulding Hospital, once completed in 2014, is set to be one of the country’s first hospitals to be conditioned solely by geothermal energy.

Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the nation’s largest privately held construction firms, recently completed the geothermal drilling for WellStar Paulding Hospital, one of the nation’s first hospitals to be conditioned solely by geothermal energy. This is the firm’s 52nd project with WellStar, a non-profit Georgia-based health system, and the hospital being built in Hiram will be one of the first in the country to be conditioned solely on geothermal energy, according to a Brasfield & Gorrie news release. Video: Officials Break Ground at WellStar Hospital Site

Crews are already on the job at the site of the WellStar Paulding Hospital, slated to be complete in about two years.

Though dirt was already being moved at the site of the future WellStar Paulding Hospital, officials with the health group and others who have helped the project along were on hand Monday to lift shovels to commemorate the beginning of construction. The facility being built in Hiram along Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway at Bill Carruth Parkway, next to the Paulding Physicians Center, is slated to open in April of 2014. Fifty-six in-patient beds will be available once the hospital opens, though future work will double that amount to 112. Attendees at Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony heard WellStar Medical Group officials outline the future hospital’s features and what it will bring to Paulding residents. I am anxious to see this his hospital built and glad to hear they are moving away from the old modern cooling towers and going towards geothermal energy to heat and cool the hospital. Video: Future Hospital Focus of Chamber Luncheon

Reynold J. Jennings of WellStar Health Systems focused on the future WellStar Paulding Hospital during his keynote speech Thursday.

Just days before its groundbreaking, attendees to Thursday’s Paulding County Chamber of Commerce Georgia Power Luncheon learned about the WellStar Paulding Hospital, slated to open in the spring of 2014. Reynold J. Jennings, chairman and CEO of WellStar Health Systems, served as keynote speaker of the luncheon held at the Paulding County Senior Center. While Jennings' presentation covered some of the present happenings in the health group, the majority of his time was focused on the future—especially that of the hospital currently being built in Hiram along Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway at Bill Carruth Parkway, next to the Paulding Physicians Center. WellStar Cancer Accredited by American College of Surgeons

The facility demonstrates a commendation level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program: committee leadership, data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the WellStar Cancer Network.  A facility receives a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation following the onsite evaluation by a physician surveyor, during which the facility demonstrates a commendation level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program (cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement).
