Not your typical diner—you can enjoy almost any type of meal imaginable.
With a shiny, chrome exterior and a warm, chestnut interior, the Marietta Diner serves pancakes at midnight, or pasta for breakfast, possibly a slice of delectable cheesecake anytime of the day. More than 150 items offered on the menu, customers with the most finicky taste buds can find something to please their palate. On a Saturday morning, hungry for fluffy pancakes and bacon, I paid a visit to The Marietta Diner. Greeted warmly, we were seated without a wait. Although on a Saturday early morning, the restaurant was not yet busy. Our friendly server allowed us the extra time to peruse the large menu. Besides standard breakfast offerings, entrees include seafood, pasta, chicken, salads and Greek favorites prepared almost every way …

Near the Paulding/Cobb county line, a quaint lunch spot awaits.
Skeptical about Asian cuisine, I was timid about trying a new restaurant. Nevertheless, lunch at Atami Steak & Sushi was a pleasant surprise. Entering the quiet, casual dining room, the restaurant was neat, clean and comfortable. This particular weekday for lunch, there was no wait and we were immediately seated at one of the six hibachi grills. Booths, tables and a small bar had available seating as well. Walls painted a serine sunset orange with black furniture enhance the Asian décor. The service staff was friendly and prompt with beverages. Beer and wine are available, as well as the usual soft drinks. Since we chose a hibachi table, the preparation of our food was delayed a bit to add other guests, which is reasonable. With the …

Sandwiches, pastries, coffee and comfort are available at this local eatery.
Wanting a quick, local lunch, the Hiram Coffee House seemed the logical choice. Conveniently located in downtown Hiram, they offer salads, cold sandwiches or grilled sandwiches. Also offered is a soup of the day and a few breakfast items. Of course, being a coffee house, various lattes, cappuccinos and gourmet teas are available. Iced beverages, including flavored smoothies are on the menu. Everyone should be able to find something appealing on the menu. Greeted immediately upon entering, the staff is friendly and welcoming. Although a small dining area—only eight tables are available—patrons looking for a quick lunch do not occupy tables for very long, and on this busy Tuesday, a wait was not necessary. Upon being seated, my requested …

Succulent steaks are their specialty and make the Atlanta restaurant well worth a visit.
Always looking for a good steak, this cuisine critique takes us to an exclusive, upscale steak house, Stoney River Legendary Steaks. Although they have locations in six cities throughout the country, their motto is "a collection, not a chain." From the moment you enter the restaurant, patrons realize this is not just an evening out for dinner; it is an elegant sanctuary. Location menus can vary from city to city; however, all locations offer pasta, fish, soups, salads, and of course, signature steaks. The appetizer list is very diverse with something for everyone. Delicate desserts paired with great espresso are the crown jewel to a lavish-tasting meal. Full bar and a vast wine list are offered. Reservations are recommended. Already a …

Relax at a local coffee house that can help you decompress.
Coffee houses are becoming more popular in the Paulding/West Cobb County area. The Daily Grind serves specialty coffees, croissants, sandwiches and sweet treats. To catch a quick, relaxing lunch, the quaint, rustic coffee shop is perfect. The shop offers a variety of lattes, signature espressos and other hot beverages; the Sinful Delight was silky, sweet and calorie-ridden delicious. A concoction of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, espresso and steamed milk, Sinful Delight is a cozy beverage on a rainy afternoon. For my lunch break, I enjoyed the Unwind Club Panini Sandwich. Turkey breast, ham, bacon and Muenster cheese served with honey-mustard dipping sauce is comfort food, light and filling. Cooked on herb-crusted flatbread, a pickle and …

Hiram is the third location but expansion is not always successful.
Dining at local restaurants sparks enthusiasm and excitement for me; therefore, when The Olive Tree Greek and Italian Cuisine, opened in downtown Hiram (locations are also in Lithia Springs and Villa Rica), I could not wait to try it. Being a Friday night, the parking lot was busy. Upon entering, one couple was already waiting for a table in the very small waiting area. Several couples, including a party of five, were promptly seated, while we (my husband and I) waited 20 minutes for a table. When we were seated, three of the 16 tables were empty. During our meal, the table staff were quickly clearing tables; service was wonderful; however, it was evident the hostess was moving in slow motion seating new customers. The menu was a bit …

Elegant atmosphere, friendly service and superior food make Dogwood Terrace more than just a renovated 1947 house.
Located on Main Street in downtown Acworth, Dogwood Terrace offers late breakfast, delicious lunches and savory dinner specials. Initially a catering and special events business, Dogwood Terrace has expanded to offer fresh ingredients, delectable entrees and culinary delights not typically offered in a rural town. Just 10 minutes from the Paulding/Cobb County line, Chef Steve Moughalian can provide a three course meal you will forever remember. Chef Steve has constructed a menu that makes your mouth water when only reading the menu ... ”four jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat; wrapped in prosciutto, baked in the oven and topped with a lemon caper butter sauce,” or “all-natural beef short ribs, lightly sweet; slightly peppery, Zinfandel …

Although satisfactory, Ippolito's needs some excitement.
For more than 15 years, Ippolito’s Italian restaurant has been operating in Kennesaw. A casual atmosphere with a little nostalgia built in, owners George and Toni Ippolito wanted to create a homestyle dining experience, using family recipes where patrons would feel comfortable. Beginning with one location, they have expanded to six locations throughout the north Atlanta area. Upon entering Kennesaw’s location, a beautiful, long bar is available for diners to enjoy a glass of wine while awaiting their table in the quaint but satisfactory dinning room. The short wine list was disappointing; however, beer and liquor are also available. Saturdays are very busy and call-ahead seating is recommended. Larger parties must make reservations. The …

Great location and easy to find, if you are looking for home made pizza, give this Italian eatery, Paisano's, a try.
Paisano’s offers a variety of classic Italian dishes and a full plethora of pizzas. With a rustic Tuscan village charm but a contemporary design, Paisano’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria serves classic Italian pastas and salads. Plenty of booths and tables could fit most any size party. In a causal dining atmosphere, families and couples would enjoy the openness of the restaurant. Being my second visit, I tried the meat-lover’s pizza this time. Topped with huge pieces of sausage, large slices of pepperoni and sizable beef meatballs, the $14 pizza was much better than any fast food delivery service could bring me. Cheesy, hot and delicious, I would recommend the pizza over any entrée at Paisano’s. However, be patient. Our party was rather…

Great Italian food without requiring a trip to Italy.
If you are looking for New York style Italian food, travel 20 minutes east on Dallas Highway, turn left on Barrett Parkway and dine at Vincent’s. A father (Rocky) and son (Paul) team have opened this New York/New Jersey style family dinning restaurant to fill a void of good, traditional Italian food in the west Cobb/East Paulding county area. Offering a full bar and modest wine list, Vincent’s has classic baked ziti, lasagna, chicken saltimbocca or veal parmigiana. However, extraordinary pasta fagioli with meatballs, rigatoni ala vodka, mussels and New York style pizzas are among the 50 items offered on the menu. Dinners are led to their tables past a stunning dessert carousel with a beautiful tiramisu, various cakes and pies, enticing you…

I will say this place does have it's fans. And they are about as nice as the food is good. Which is to say it ain't! And I used ain't on purpose! The food was horrible. Just because it is family owned does not mean it is good. My family immigrated from Italy, I remember my Aunts making meals for family get together's. That was old world Italian. What the Olive Tree serves doesn't even come close…   more ›
